ProloguePrologue: It Began As…
"Hey, my names Terence. Terence Mason. And I already sort of know what you’re thinking. This is just another one of those pointless fic stories right? You’re sort of right and sort of wrong too. Just hear me out okay? I want to at least tell you what happened before we (as in my friends and I) all got to be where we are. So here’s what happened. About two years ago there was this weird storm we had. It was supposed to be a thunder storm but the weird thing was there was no rain at all. Only the dark clouds at night and constant flashes of lightning. You couldn’t see any actual strikes but just the sky continued to light up every 4 seconds or so.
Me and my friends were outside when it happened just looking up at the sky. It seemed cool to us and we really never thought much of it and us and the world passed it off as just some weird anomaly that just happened. The next day however, some news channels were talking about a huge group of people cosplaying in various areas around the world. Wasn’t anything big but was just another one of those weird occurrences that’s happening. As the day rolled on as usual the news became more talkative of these cosplayers which seemed to have doubled from what it was this morning and continues too every few hours or so. The world thinks it’s a prank but why would so many people be in on it?
Weeks and months pass and the world has finally beginning to understand that this isn’t some sketch played out by some otaku and might actually be thinking they are real. Didn’t take long for that thought to be confirmed when a fight had broke out between two of them and it resulted in some as the news put it "deadly special effects”. Police began to hunt for these people and the world is pretty much having an anxiety attack but I don’t blame them. What would you do if you found out you lived with a bunch of martial artists who could throw flaming balls of light from their hands?
Nearing the end of the year the public has discovered that they have also been given the ability to "release ki”. I didn’t believe them at first either until me and a friend accidentally released a small blast or two of our own. Now armed with this knowledge, academies have started to be built within most states and countries to help the world be able to harness this ability. It’s either run by those who have mastery over it (those "cosplayers") or those who have spent a great deal messing around with it until they have been able to do it accurately.
Shoot to present time, I’ve been having the idea of going to those academies. It seems all ages are welcome (at least from middle school and up) and it just all around sounds better than college. While it is still school to an extent (they do give you regular work) it’s mostly about harnessing that ki you have within you. I called up most of my friends and asked were they thinking of attending too. 2 of them were sure they were attending while the other 2 seemed indifferent and undecided. Maybe they’ll come around too it. My only problem now is my mother…convincing her is going to be a hassle…”
